As part of the Liberia Solar Home System Results-based Financing Programme, Amped and LEN aim to deploy over 4,660 Solar-Powered Home Systems

January 13, 2024 – Liberia and Redwood City, CA, USA – Today, Amped Innovation and the Liberian Energy Network (LEN) announced an expanded partnership. The two companies will participate in The Liberia Solar Home System Results-based Financing (LSHS-RBF) program, which offers incentives for deploying off-grid solar systems. The program is implemented by Energising Development (EnDev) and BRAC Liberia with funding from the Netherlands Government Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS), the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) and the World Bank.
The objective of the RBF is to provide access to quality, clean, affordable, and better energy services in existing and underserved markets across Liberia through stand-alone solar home systems (SHS) and close the affordability gap faced by the most vulnerable parts of the population. The key result indicator is the number of people provided with new or improved electricity access through SHS. The RBF also aims to encourage the growth of emerging solar companies where possible and support their participation in the off-grid market growth. This RBF is expected to reach at least 37,000 Liberians through direct subsidies, and 78,000 through indirect subsidies.
“Our partnership with Amped Innovation continues to align perfectly with our mission to provide sustainable energy solutions to small businesses and households in need,” said LEN President and CEO, Patrick Tamia Tewuleh. “We’re thrilled to participate in the Liberia Solar Home System Results-based Financing Programme and scale clean energy projects.”
Amped Innovation and LEN have partnered in Liberia since 2021 and have brought solar energy to hundreds of families. For this program, the two will primarily deploy WowSolar 400 products. Amped Innovation's WowSolar product line includes high-performance, upgradeable solar and battery solutions for cost-effective, reliable clean energy. Amped’s kits are designed to provide brighter lights, longer run times between charges and automatically dim lamps when the battery runs low, extending the runtime for customers by an extra hour. Unlike other similar products on the market, customers can charge up to two mobile phones without compromising evening runtime. Its WowSolar products are integrated with leading PAYGO software solutions and Amped provides a no-fee, open-access PAYGO token generation API. LEN will continue to use Angaza for its PAYGO system.
“LEN remains a great partner to Amped and we’re thrilled to support their growth in Liberia,” said Andi Kleissner, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Amped Innovation. “We look forward to expanding this trusted partnership and bringing more families much needed energy.”
